We are proud to announce that UpSim is now available on our online store.

UpSim is the new project of UpSurgeOn dedicated to advanced training and endorsed by many institutions worldwide.

The UpSurgeOn team, led by two young Italian neurosurgeons, Dr Federico Nicolosi and Dr Giannantonio Spena, is made by neurosurgeons, residents, medical students, developers,  digital artists, artisans and entrepreneurs of different European countries.

The aim of this project is to create a new concept in neurosurgical training: hi-tech and low-cost technologies to support neurosurgical education globally. In particular, UpSim fills the tremendous gap existing between theoretical and practical training in a cadaver lab or on a real patient. 

WHY WE ASK YOU TO CONTRIBUTE

Some data: 

  • In low-middle income countries, 5 million neurosurgical cases are unattended each year. No access to safe, affordable surgical services when needed (Park KB et al, Global Neurosurgery: The Unmet Need, 2016)
  • In high income countries, claims of malpractice increased by 25% since the 90s. 3.4% neurosurgeons face malpractice claims every year, rising the average indemnity payment to €278,000 per physician (Forbes, Medical Malpractice Claims Are Declining, But The Average Payment Is Rising, 2017).

The UpSurgeOn team believes in the importance of making neurosurgical education accessible everywhere, specially where a cadaver lab or a simulation center are not available. 

UpSim was conceived to be affordable also in countries with limited facilities, thanks to its low cost. This project aims to bypass monopolies in hi-tech simulation training by making the access to these technologies accessible on a global level.
